A young man died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in the Baliguda area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Tuesday, in a tragic and unexpected incident that has shocked the local community.

The deceased has been identified as B. Maheswar Dora, a resident of Khajurinala Sahi in the district.

According to reports, Maheswar had gone out in the morning to play cricket with his friends. After returning home, he went up to the rooftop of his house, where he was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees. The attack reportedly took him by surprise, and he sustained multiple bee stings in a short span of time.

Family members and locals immediately rushed him to Baliguda Hospital in a critical condition. However, despite emergency medical attention, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The sudden death has left his family and neighbours in deep shock. Maheswar was a married man and was engaged in running a bangle business in Baliguda town to support his family. His untimely demise has cast a pall of gloom over the area, with residents expressing grief over the freak accident.

Speaking about the incident, Maheswar’s father, Durga Dora, said that his son had gone to play cricket in the morning and later went to the rooftop after returning home, where he was attacked by bees. He added that the incident happened suddenly and fatally.

“He (Maheswar) had gone to play cricket with his friends in the morning. After returning home from the game, he went to the rooftop of his house, where he was suddenly attacked by bees. Subsequently, he lost his life,” said Maheswar’s father, Durga Dora.

The exact reason behind the bee attack is yet to be ascertained.
