After days of intense heat and scorching weather conditions, some parts of Odisha witnessed a sudden change in weather on Monday as Nor’wester activity brought strong winds, heavy rain, hailstorms, and dust storms, offering temporary relief to people reeling under severe summer heat.

In Bargarh district, the Nor’wester unleashed its fury, causing significant damage in the area. A beautification gate that had been constructed for the famous Dhanuyatra festival collapsed due to the impact of strong winds. According to reports, the gate had been built only a few months ago at a cost of several lakh rupees as part of efforts to enhance the city’s appearance during the festival.

As per reports, at least two persons sustained injuries after the gate came crashing down. Further details regarding their condition are awaited.

Meanwhile, in Rourkela city, heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstones was reported. The city also witnessed strong gusty winds and dust storms, creating a turbulent weather situation.

Rain continued to lash several areas, while hail showers and intense winds affected normal movement in parts of the city. The sudden weather shift brought relief to people who had been struggling with oppressive heat and humid conditions over the past few days.

For the last several days, residents had been experiencing extreme temperatures coupled with uncomfortable humidity, making outdoor activities increasingly difficult. The Nor’wester activity, although destructive in some places, provided a much-needed break from the prolonged heatwave-like conditions gripping the state.
