Elephant found dead in Angul; forest department launches probe

An elephant was found dead in the Manorbeda-Kheshera forest under the Madhapur Range of Athmallik in Odisha’s Angul district on Monday. 

Following the incident, the Forest Department launched an investigation into the death. The elephant had reportedly separated from its herd nearly eight years ago and had been roaming alone in the forest since then.

According to reports, the elephant was regularly tracked by Forest Department officials, and so far, it had not caused harm to anyone. The animal had reportedly been unwell for quite some time and was also in its old age. 

Elephant Found Dead a Day After Being Spotted Near Village

The elephant was reportedly seen near Manorbeda village a day before it was found dead inside the forest. After receiving information about the carcass, Forest Department personnel rushed to the spot and initiated an inquiry into the incident.

Officials have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the death, and a post-mortem examination is expected to provide further clarity regarding the exact cause.

Forest Department Begins Investigation

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the elephant may have died due to old age-related complications. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact reason behind the death.

The Forest Department has informed that after the completion of the post-mortem, the carcass of the elephant will be buried inside the forest as per procedure.
