Will BJD MP Debashish Samantaray quit party? BJP switch buzz intensifies

Speculation over the political future of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray intensified on Monday amid discussions that he may quit the regional party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Political circles were abuzz with reports suggesting that Samantaray, who is believed to have been dissatisfied with developments within the BJD for the past few months, could resign from the party and formally join the BJP either later in the day or on Tuesday.

Social Media Posts Add To Speculation

The discussions gained further traction after former BJD leader Sreemayee Mishra shared two cryptic posts on social media that were perceived by many as being critical of the party’s leadership.

In one of her posts, she wrote, “As long as the impostor remains, wickets will continue to tumble.”

The post was widely interpreted as an indirect reference to former BJD leader V.K. Pandian, further fuelling speculation surrounding possible political realignments within the party.

According to reports, if Debashish Samantaray exits the BJD, the party’s strength in the Rajya Sabha will further decline to five members. There is also speculation that, after joining the BJP, Samantaray could be re-elected to Parliament with the party’s support.

No Official Confirmation Yet

Despite the growing buzz, there was no official confirmation made regarding Samantaray’s reported move. Attempts were made to obtain a reaction from the Rajya Sabha MP, but no response was available at the time of reporting.

Sources familiar with the developments indicated that Samantaray is likely to resign from the BJD on Monday, though no formal announcement had been made.

The speculation also drew attention as Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to visit New Delhi on Monday, adding another dimension to the ongoing political discussions.
