‘Undisputed powerhouse of world…’: Rohit Sharma expresses his vision for India in cricket

Indian cricket stalwart Rohit Sharma, a two-time T20 World Cup winner, has expressed his vision for India to become the undisputed powerhouse of world cricket.
Speaking at the Mumbai Indians’ ESA Day event, Rohit reflected on the country’s recent successes across formats, from the 2024 World Cup to the Women’s World Cup, U19 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, and another T20 World Cup.
“I want India to be the powerhouse of world cricket… that is the bottom line,” Rohit said. “What we have achieved in the last three years has been superb. I hope we continue our winning streak.”
Evolution of Modern Cricket
Rohit also highlighted how the game, especially white-ball cricket, has evolved dramatically during his career. “When we started, 130-140 was considered a good score. Now, any total doesn’t seem convincing. It shows how aggressively the game has changed,” he said. He credited the fearlessness and open-mindedness of today’s players for taking cricket to new heights, noting that modern cricketers are not afraid to take bold steps rather than playing conservatively.
Nurturing the Next Generation
On grooming young talent, Rohit stressed the importance of allowing children to enjoy cricket without pressure. “Kids aged six to eighteen should just play and enjoy the sport. That’s how it started for me,” he said, emphasizing that enjoyment is key to long-term growth and success.
Fit and Ready for Afghanistan ODI series
Rohit has also received a timely fitness boost ahead of Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 final against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium. Declared fully fit after injury setbacks, he has scored 283 runs in eight matches at an average of 40.42, with a strike rate of 160.70, including explosive knocks of 84 off 44 balls and 78 off 38 balls.
Rohit will next seen the ODI series against Afghanistan in June.
