A youth sustained critical burn injuries after allegedly climbing atop a train coach to take selfies and shoot reels at Mancheswar Railway Station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

While the identity of the youth is yet to be ascertained, sources said he had come from Rajasthan to Cuttack for training purposes. 

The incident took place when he reportedly climbed onto the roof of a stationary train coach at Mancheswar station to click photographs and record videos for social media, sources added.

During the act, he allegedly came in contact with a high-voltage overhead electric wire and suffered severe burn injuries. The incident triggered panic among passengers and railway staff present at the station.

The injured youth was immediately rescued and rushed to the Railway Medical facility for emergency treatment. Later, he was shifted to a hospital in Cuttack as his condition remained critical.

Meanwhile, the railway police reportedly have recovered the youth’s parent’s contact details and informed them about the incident. 

Railway authorities have repeatedly warned people against climbing train coaches or entering restricted railway zones for selfies and reels. Officials said overhead electric lines carry extremely high voltage and can prove fatal even without direct physical contact.
