Man dies under suspicious circumstances at Drug Rehab centre: family alleges physical torture, owner arrested

A shocking incident of negligence and mistreatment has come to light from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur, where a resident of a drug rehabilitation centre at Charcika Bazar was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Anurodh Lenka from Nagapur village in Koraput district.

Family Alleges Torture

According to family members, Anurodh fell seriously ill, and while being taken to the hospital, he died en route. The family alleges that he was subjected to physical torture at the centre, which contributed to his untimely death. This has sparked outrage among relatives and local residents demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the matter.

Police Action

Upon receiving the information, the Sadar police registered a case and acted swiftly. The owner of the Swadhar Drug Rehabilitation Centre was taken into custody for questioning soon after the allegations by the family members.

“We were bringing your father; he was struggling on the way. We had just reached the hospital in five minutes when he passed away. My question here is, if the doctors knew about father’s condition that day, why didn’t they say anything? If the medical staff had wanted to, the SP had said there were signs of wounds and injuries all over his body. Given my father’s condition, he shouldn’t have died. The govt should take action against those who are guilty, and SP sir should also take action,” said the deceased man’s son, Abinash Lenka.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of Anurodh’s death, including alleged negligence and mistreatment at the facility. The local administration has promised a detailed probe to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.

This incident has raised concerns about the conditions at drug rehabilitation centres in the region and the safety measures for residents undergoing treatment.
