Just 25 days after marriage, newly-wed bride found dead in Cuttack; family alleges murder by in-laws

In a shocking and tragic incident, a newly married woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances just 25 days after her marriage at Tarapi village under Tangi police station in Odisha‘s Cuttack district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Purnima Pradhan of Parabal village, who had tied the knot less than a month ago. 

According to reports, her body was recovered hanging from a ceiling fan inside her in-laws’ residence under suspicious circumstances.

Soon after the incident came to light, the victim’s family raised serious allegations against her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Family members claimed that Purnima had been murdered and accused the in-laws of being involved in her death.

The bereaved family lodged a formal complaint at Tangi Police Station, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

Acting on the complaint, police have detained Purnima’s husband, Gurucharan, and are currently questioning him as part of the ongoing investigation. A police team, along with a scientific investigation team, reached the spot and initiated a detailed probe.

Authorities have seized the body and sent it for further examination, while investigators continue to collect evidence to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the death. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.

 “My sister has been beaten to death. However, her in-laws are claiming that she committed suicide,” said Puja Pradhan, sister of the deceased.

“A case has been registered in connection with the incident at Tangi Police Station. A police team, along with a scientific investigation team, reached the spot and launched a detailed probe into the matter. Family members of the deceased have alleged foul play and suspect that her in-laws may have been involved in her death. The deceased woman’s husband has been detained for questioning. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway,” said Tangi police station IIC Rabindra Kumar Bhujabal.
