22 detained in late-night crackdown during massive joint raid in Paradip

A major late-night crackdown was carried out in Paradip, Odisha on Friday as police and district administration intensified action against public drinking and anti-social activities in the port town.

Joint teams conducted simultaneous raids at several locations, including Badapadia, Atharabanki, IFFCO Chowk, and OSL Lane. During the operation, police detained 22 persons allegedly for consuming liquor in public places and creating a nuisance in different parts of the town.

Surprise Raids Across Sensitive Areas

According to sources, the crackdown was jointly led by the Jagatsinghpur district administration and Paradip police under the supervision of District Collector J Sonal and SP Ankit Verma.

Police teams reportedly entered multiple sensitive pockets of Paradip simultaneously and carried out surprise checks at roadside spots, liquor outlets and other areas allegedly known for public drinking and anti-social activities.

The operation continued till late Friday night, with intensive road blockades and vehicle checking at several key entry and exit points of the port town.

A large number of police personnel were deployed during the drive as officials closely monitored the situation across different localities.

Liquor Shop Owners Issued Strict Warning

During the crackdown, authorities also issued strict warnings to liquor shop owners against allowing customers to consume alcohol near off-shop premises or outside on-shop establishments.

Officials reportedly warned that action would be taken against liquor outlets found violating rules or indirectly encouraging public drinking.

Sources said several persons were allegedly found consuming liquor openly near roadside areas and liquor shops during the raid.

Action Intensified After Crackdown on Mafia Activities

The latest enforcement drive comes days after intensified action against alleged oil, coal, sand and soil mafia activities in the Paradip region.

Officials said the administration is now focusing on curbing anti-social activities, drunken nuisance and law-and-order issues in the industrial town.

The late-night operation created a buzz across Paradip as police teams moved through multiple localities and continued checking operations for several hours.

Authorities indicated that similar surprise raids and night enforcement drives are likely to continue in the coming days as monitoring is further intensified across the region.
