A major robbery has been reported from Odisha‘s Bhadrak district after a group of armed miscreants allegedly entered a house late Friday night, threatened family members at gunpoint and looted huge amounts of cash and gold ornaments before fleeing the spot.

The incident took place near the Talang Canal embankment under Ambroli panchayat within the Bhadrak Rural police limits. The targeted house belongs to Gangadhar Mallik.

Family allegedly held at gunpoint inside house

According to sources, around seven to eight armed robbers barged into the house deep into the night while family members were inside.

The accused allegedly threatened members of the family by placing guns on their heads and warned them against raising an alarm. Family members were reportedly assaulted during the robbery and were also threatened with dire consequences.

Sources said the robbers searched different rooms of the house and looted nearly Rs 22 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments worth more than Rs 20 lakh.

The family remained terrified throughout the incident as the accused allegedly carried out the robbery in a planned manner inside the house.

Robbers locked family from outside before fleeing

After carrying out the loot, the accused allegedly locked the family members inside the house from outside before escaping from the area.

The family later managed to alert local residents after which villagers rushed to the spot and rescued them.

News of the robbery soon spread across the locality, creating fear among nearby residents.

Police begin investigation from multiple angles

On receiving information, police reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.

Officials are reportedly examining how the robbers entered the house and whether the accused had prior information about the cash and valuables kept there.

Police are also likely to verify CCTV footage and gather evidence from nearby areas as part of the probe.

Though the family has claimed cash and gold ornaments worth several lakhs were looted, the exact value of the stolen property is yet to be officially confirmed by the police.
