Bottles hurled at MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain’s vehicle in Cuttack district

Tension gripped the Tigiria area under Odisha’s Cuttack district after the vehicle of MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain allegedly came under attack near the Block Square on Friday.

According to reports, a group of youths allegedly chased the MLA’s vehicle while carrying sticks and also hurled bottles at it, creating panic and chaos in the area. The group was also seen raising slogans and displaying banners and posters during the protest.

The incident took place when the legislator was on his way to attend a meeting at the Tigiria Block office. Sources suggest that some individuals staged a protest against the MLA and confronted his convoy en route, leading to a tense situation on the road.

The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of Tigiria police personnel. Acting promptly, police intervened and escorted the MLA’s vehicle safely into the Block office premises to prevent any untoward situation from escalating further.

Following the alleged attack, the situation in the area became more tense as supporters of the MLA gathered in front of the Block office and staged a counter-protest condemning the incident. The supporters also reportedly had a face-off with police personnel during the agitation, which further escalated the commotion in the locality.

The incident has triggered political tension in the region, with both sides exchanging accusations over the sequence of events. Law and order remained on edge for some time as police tried to bring the situation under control.

An FIR has been registered at Tigiria Police Station in connection with the incident, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the attack and identify those involved.
