Sex racket busted in Odisha’s Jatani; seven including kingpins arrested, four women rescued

In a major crackdown, police busted an alleged sex racket operating from the Sai Vihar area in Jatani and arrested seven persons, including two alleged kingpins, on Wednesday.
Police also rescued four young women during the raid conducted following specific intelligence inputs about suspicious activities in the area.
The two alleged masterminds of the racket have been identified as Prabhati Swain and D. Gouri. According to investigators, the duo had allegedly been running the illegal operation from Sai Vihar for a considerable period.
Women From Economically Weaker Backgrounds Allegedly Targeted
Police said the accused allegedly targeted young women from economically weaker sections who were searching for jobs and later lured them into the racket.
Investigators suspect that the network was being operated in a well-organised manner with the help of several associates.
According to police sources, the accused allegedly used WhatsApp groups to run the operation. Photographs of women were reportedly shared with customers through these groups, following which deals and meetings were arranged.
Officials suspect the racket may have links beyond Jatni and are now examining digital communication records to trace possible interstate or wider connections.
Mobile Phones, Objectionable Materials Seized
During the raid, police detained several persons from the spot and rescued four women allegedly involved in the racket.
Police also seized mobile phones and several objectionable materials from the accused persons. Investigators are currently scanning the seized devices to gather further evidence related to financial transactions, customer networks, and the possible scale of operations.
All Accused Forwarded To Court
All seven accused were arrested and later forwarded to court.
