Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli be included in Indian team for 2027 World Cup?

Concerns are reportedly growing within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding former India captain Rohit Sharma and his fitness ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Although he has been included in India’s three-match ODI series against Afghanistan beginning June 14, his availability could depend on his physical condition.

Rohit had suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the season, which forced him to miss four matches for the Mumbai Indians. While he made an impressive return with a fluent half-century, he has frequently featured as an Impact Substitute, reportedly raising concerns among board officials over his ability to handle the demands of full-length ODI cricket.

According to media reports, selectors and decision-makers are closely monitoring whether Rohit can stay fit and avoid recurring injuries in the build-up to next year’s major tournament. Unlike the IPL format, ODI cricket requires players to remain active on the field for the full 50 overs, increasing the physical demands significantly.

Reports also suggest that the BCCI no longer views Rohit and Virat Kohli through the same fitness lens. Kohli continues to maintain exceptionally high fitness standards and is known for his disciplined training routines even during breaks, which has helped him stay consistently sharp.

From a batting perspective, Rohit’s form has hardly been a concern. The veteran opener has delivered strongly in recent ODIs, scoring a century and four half-centuries in his last ten innings. However, the key question remains whether his body can sustain the workload required for a long campaign leading into the World Cup.

Reports indicate that the BCCI medical team could play a major role in assessing Rohit’s future plans. If concerns continue, India may begin preparing alternative opening options. Ishan Kishan has been included for the Afghanistan series, while Yashasvi Jaiswal remains another potential candidate waiting in the wings. More clarity is expected once India begin their assignments against England in mid-July.
