CBSE slashes re-evaluation fees from Rs 500 to 100, offers refund if marks increase

In a student-friendly move, the CBSE on Sunday significantly reduced fees for re-evaluation and verification of exam papers. The fee for obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets has been brought down from Rs 700 to Rs 100.
Similarly, the mark verification fee has been reduced from Rs 500 to Rs 100. This reduction aims to make the process more accessible to students seeking clarity or reassessment of their performance.
Per-Question Re-evaluation Fees Lowered, Refunds Offered
CBSE has also cut the fee for re-evaluation of individual questions from Rs 100 to Rs 25. Students who apply for re-evaluation and see an increase in their marks will be eligible for a full refund of the fees paid. This step is expected to encourage more students to exercise their right to re-evaluation without the burden of high fees, ensuring transparency and fairness in the assessment process.
“Our children have anxiety, and I see some on social media, what we’re seeing in newspapers, or through other media, the feedback we’re receiving shows that there is some concern, and we too are equally concerned because whether it’s the Ministry of Education or CBSE, and I am speaking on behalf of the CBSE also, that the welfare and concern of all our children is of utmost importance to us.We want no child to feel that for any reason, due to their merit or their performance in the examination, whatever they wrote, they received fewer marks. I would like to say, and I would like to repeat this, that the provision for re-evaluation has always existed in CBSE,” said Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Union Ministry of Education.
“And this time, CBSE has also given everyone the choice that if they want to apply for re-evaluation, they can apply for re-evaluation, and we will examine these papers with the same meticulousness, the same detail, and the same seriousness, and we will ensure that the full marks or obtained marks they received, the total that was calculated, and the numbers given to them are absolutely accurate. At some places, there has also been an apprehension expressed, some people are talking about this, that we charge them Rs 700 so that we can give them their question papers. And if they feel that they need to apply for some questions to be checked, then a fee should be given for that as well. In between, we also provide one for verification,” he added.
So again, I would like to say that we have no such intention, and regarding the anxiety and restlessness of the children, and also the anxiety and restlessness of the parents, CBSE has decided this time that if you want to see your question paper, your answer sheet, if you want to get it validated, or if you feel after reviewing it that you should have received more marks in a certain question, then for the fee we charge for that, we have seriously and thoughtfully decided that, whatever the previous fee you are aware of, we will charge a fee of Rs 100 if they wish to see their answer sheets. And if they want validation, it’s also Rs 100. And if they want to get the answer to any question checked, it’s Rs 25,” concluded Sanjay Kumar.

The board’s initiative has been widely welcomed by students and parents alike. With education costs rising, this reduction not only eases financial pressure but also promotes confidence in the evaluation system.
By making re-evaluation and verification affordable, CBSE ensures that deserving students can have their efforts properly recognized and rewarded, further strengthening trust in the board’s commitment to student welfare.
