Unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire at the residence of a coal trader in Odisha’s Sundargarh town late on Saturday night. Police suspected a possible link to a dispute over coal transportation in MCL areas.

The incident took place on Mission Road under Sundargarh Town police limits. The house targeted in the firing belongs to Sanjay Nanda, owner of Maa Tarini Transport.

Firing Reported Around 2:30 am

According to reports, the miscreants arrived at the residence in a car at around 2:30 am and allegedly questioned the security guard about Sanjay Nanda.

An argument reportedly broke out between the accused persons and the security guard, following which the miscreants allegedly opened fire and fled from the spot.

No injuries or damage were reported in the incident.

Police Launch Investigation

Police reached the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation into the matter.

As per the latest reports, police have reportedly identified the accused persons as well as the vehicle involved in the firing incident.

Investigators suspect the incident may have been linked to disputes relating to coal transportation in MCL areas.

Earlier Threat Calls Also Reported

Sources said the businessman had allegedly received death threats over phone calls a few years ago as well. The youth accused in that earlier threat case had reportedly been arrested at the time.
