Truck driver beaten to death in Sundargarh; three detained

A shocking incident of mob violence has been reported from Sundargarh district of Odisha, where a pickup vehicle driver was allegedly beaten to death by a group of truck drivers in the coal corridor under Bhasma Police Station limits.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place after a pickup vehicle reportedly hit a truck driver, triggering tension in the area. Following the incident, an altercation broke out which soon turned violent. In a brutal act, more than 20 truck drivers allegedly joined together and attacked the pickup driver using iron rods.

The victim sustained severe injuries after being mercilessly assaulted and later succumbed to the injuries. The incident created panic and shock in the coal transportation corridor.

On receiving information, local police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter. So far, three persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident. Police are further probing the circumstances that led to the violent attack and are trying to identify other individuals involved in the murder.

The incident has raised serious concerns over law and order and the increasing instances of violence over road-related disputes. Further investigation is underway.
