Odisha Law Minister bats for clean Electoral Roll as state prepares for SIR drive

Odisha is set to soon launch the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process aimed at strengthening the accuracy, transparency and credibility of the electoral system in the State. The initiative is expected to focus on updating and correcting voter lists to ensure free and fair elections with minimal discrepancies.

Reacting to the development, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the Special Intensive Revision process would play a crucial role in eliminating errors and irregularities from the electoral roll. He stated that the move is intended to make the voter list more accurate and reliable, thereby enhancing public confidence in the democratic process.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the Minister emphasised that a clean and updated voter database is essential for conducting transparent and credible elections. According to him, the SIR exercise would help identify discrepancies, remove inaccuracies and ensure that eligible voters are properly included in the electoral rolls.

Harichandan further said the initiative would bring long-term benefits to Odisha’s electoral framework and contribute towards strengthening democratic practices in the State. The State government believes that such electoral reforms are necessary to maintain fairness and transparency in the democratic process while ensuring greater accountability in voter registration and verification mechanisms.
