Jana Nayagan Producer Heading Back To Chennai Leaving Cannes Midway!
Fresh buzz surrounding the long-delayed film began after reports emerged that newly-appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay personally asked producer Venkat K Narayana to cut short his Cannes visit and return to Chennai immediately.
Venkat, who had travelled to attend the Cannes Film Festival on behalf of KVN Productions, is now reportedly heading back as efforts restart to move the film’s release forward.
The latest development has reignited speculation that Vijay is keen to ensure his final film reaches theatres after months of uncertainty.
CBFC Objections Put the Brakes on The Film
Jana Nayagan was initially expected to release on January 9, but the plan collapsed after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly refused to clear the film. Certain scenes were said to have raised concerns over public sentiment, while the film’s political backdrop also reportedly became a sensitive issue during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The situation drew greater attention because Vijay had entered electoral politics for the first time through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and eventually emerged victorious in the polls. With the actor simultaneously becoming a major political figure, the film’s content reportedly came under closer scrutiny.
Legal Battle Delayed the Release Further
Following the CBFC’s objections, the makers moved court seeking a censor certificate ahead of the scheduled release. What followed was a prolonged legal dispute that eventually forced the team to postpone the film indefinitely. Later, the production house withdrew the case and decided to submit the film to the revising committee instead.
Since then, Jana Nayagan has remained stuck in the certification process with no official clarity on its release timeline. There were recent reports suggesting a possible May 8 release, but the film still remains uncertified.
Leak Controversy Created Fresh Complications
The film suffered another major setback after an HD print was leaked online on April 9. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police later arrested nine people in connection with the leak, including three main accused. Investigators reportedly found that one of the accused was a freelance editor who had illegally accessed the footage before uploading it online.
Editors’ Association Suspended Pradeep E Ragav
Following the leak controversy, editor Pradeep E Ragav faced suspension from the editors’ association for collaborating with a freelance editor who was not registered with the official film body. The association clarified that Pradeep was not directly involved in leaking the film, but disciplinary action was taken for violating association rules.

Vijay’s Much-awaited Final Film Awaits Release

The political action drama also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol and Gautham Menon.
Now, with producer Venkat returning to Chennai and renewed movement reportedly taking place behind the scenes, the conversation around Jana Nayagan’s stalled release has gained momentum once again.
