Odisha Police to withdraw personnel from clerical duties, return to field duties by May 31

In a major administrative reform aimed at strengthening operational policing, the Odisha Police has decided to withdraw police personnel currently engaged in clerical and office-related duties across various units in the state.
The directive has been issued by Odisha Director General of Police Y B Khurania with the objective of streamlining manpower deployment and ensuring that trained security personnel are utilised for active field and operational responsibilities.
According to the order, constables posted in clerical assignments at the Police Headquarters and other police establishments across Odisha will be relieved from administrative duties. The decision largely affects personnel from Armed Battalions who had been serving on deputation in different offices for long periods.
The DGP has directed that all such deputed constables be sent back to their respective parent battalions by May 31. The move is expected to enhance manpower management and improve the operational preparedness and efficiency of battalion units across the state.
To ensure smooth and timely implementation, senior police officials, including Additional Directors General (ADGs), Inspectors General (IGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), and Superintendents of Police (SPs), have been instructed to complete the process within the stipulated deadline.
The order further states that after the personnel are relieved and repatriated to their parent units, the concerned authorities must submit compliance reports and inform the Inspector General (Personnel) about the action taken.
The decision is being seen as a significant step towards optimising police resources and reinforcing frontline policing duties in Odisha.
